Taxes with an ITIN: file your return without a Social Security number
You’re far from alone: in 2022, close to 3.8 million returns nationwide included an ITIN (National Taxpayer Advocate, IRS). It’s legal, it meets your tax obligation, and in many cases money comes back to you. We walk you through it — whether you already hold an ITIN or need one for the first time.
What your free consultation covers
- Whether your ITIN is active or needs renewing.
- Exactly which documents apply to your case.
- A refund estimate before you commit to anything.
- Price and scope in writing — no surprises.
How filing taxes with an ITIN works
An ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is issued by the IRS to people who work or have income in the U.S. but don’t qualify for a Social Security number. It exists for filing taxes — it doesn’t authorize employment, but the IRS issues it to anyone who needs to meet their tax obligations. Learn more about the ITIN here.
Filing with an ITIN applies to you if any of these sound familiar:
- You work and earn money in the U.S., whatever your immigration status.
- You’re the spouse or dependent of someone on a work visa.
- You’re a foreign investor with U.S. income.
- You’re an international student with income.
- You hold an ITIN from years back that needs renewing.

- Your W-2, 1099 or any record of the year’s income.
- Receipts for deductible expenses: office rent, equipment, mileage and the like.
- Bank information for direct deposit of your refund.
- If you have dependents with ITINs, their documents too.
